Smoked ham hock & white fungus soup
Smoked ham hock in any soup is delicious. It gives a nice hammy salty smokey richness to the soup. Now white fungus or also known as snow fungus is an ingredient that probably most of you have not used before. It is mainly used in Chinese cooking or as a Chinese medicine. It is available in most Chinese/Asian grocery stores. Not only does the white fungus have a lot of health benefits it also has a crazy texture when eaten. It absorbs the flavours of the soup just like a sponge. With the added extras of Chinese noodles, wombok, daikon and other goodies this soup will warm your cockles for winter.
White fungus can be found in Chinese grocers or most Asian supermarkets. It is relatively cheap. It will come as a dried product and found with other dried foods like dried mushrooms etc.
